This position is for an Instructional Designer and Delivery to work with the Optum Medica Operations, primarily supporting the Billing, Enrollment, Claims, Call, Benefit Configuration, and Encounters. Chief responsibilities of this position will be to design, develop and update engaging learning events that supports the operations business unit. This role requires collaboration with business partners and other training resources to ensure the appropriate programs, courses, and measurements are in place. They will translate analysis into workable, engaging, and interactive learning modules for classroom, virtual, and computer-based delivery.

This position is for a Trainer supporting the Optum Medica Operations - Transactions organization. Chief responsibilities of this position will be to design and deliver the training curriculum needed to support the business unit serviced. The person will deliver process, procedure and systems training for the assigned business (enrollment, claims, billing, enrollment, call center, benefit configuration, and Medicaid encounters.

The candidate will work closely with the Operational Teams to identify training opportunities and implement strategies to conduct that training and make the staff more efficient. Additionally, they will network across other areas of Optum Operations - Transactions Training to broaden their knowledge base and expand the training offering.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8am - 5pm.

All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training for operational team members on core systems, processes, and applications
  • Provide training on culture and values aligned with Our United Culture
  • Design and Deliver training using multiple mediums - classroom, webinar, blended learning approaches
  • Design and deliver continuing education, up skill, and performance improvement training as necessary
  • Provide feedback on trainee performance in the classroom to Operational Leaders
  • Design and Deliver ad hoc training as needed
  • Participate in the instructional design and development process as necessary for large scale curriculum design projects
  • Update existing curriculum ahead of learning events - including gathering of examples, activities, etc.
  • Create new/validate existing lesson plans with Operations Managers
  • Provide feedback to trainees and Operations Managers regarding class progress, areas of strength and areas of improvement
  • Review requirements for training request, formulating probing questions for discovery/needs analysis session
  • Interview business and client subject matter experts to outline key operational processes
  • Translate complex processes into bite-sized steps and chunks
  • Create a design and delivery solution based on available information
  • Develop and deliver content using various delivery methods per departmental standards
  • Map progress and report status per departmental standards
  • Document management per departmental standards
  • Follows industry standard design and delivery process model(s) for assigned projects
  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Develop learning assessments/quizzes/proficiency tests/knowledge checks for use before or during training delivery and tools/resources for evaluating/measuring post-training learning effectiveness (e.g., scenarios, case studies, knowledge checks, assessments, performance exams, surveys, focus groups, etc.)
  • May provide mentoring/support for junior team members
  • Reviews and applies learner, instructor, and other feedback into design work to improve learner experience and/or improve performance metrics
    The successful person will possess analytical skills, solid communication skills, relationship building skills, excellent time and meeting management skills, and will be detail oriented.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED (or higher)
    • Experience facilitating virtual training in a corporate environment (preferably via Microsoft Teams)
    • Experience in Instructional Design developing ILT presentations, job aids and e-learning courses
    • Experience with learning management systems
    • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Teams
    • Proven track record of using adult learning principles to design effective, engaging, and innovative learning solutions
    • Ability to work a flexible 8-hour shift between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm
      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent/related experience
      • Advance knowledge with Word, Visio, and PowerPoint
      • Experience with Storyline, Audacity, Camtasia, and Photoshop (or equivalent)
      • Experience in leading small to medium-scale development of curriculum, including classroom, webinar, and computer-based training modules
      • Ability to train on the following systems: AR:M, COSMOS, Omega/IEX, Doc360
      • Experience creating and editing audio and/or video
        Telecommuting Requirements:
        • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
        • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
        • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
          Soft Skills:
          • Ability to deal with ambiguity (writing content on topics you are not the expert, leverage development and escalation process(s), SMEs, process documents etc. for content and media)
          • Proven record of excellent time management, organizational, prioritization skills, and demonstrated agility (ability to manage multiple/competing priorities & wear multiple hats)

            Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $26.15 - $46.63. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $28.85 - $51.30.
