meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will be involved in every aspect
of the systems life cycle, from the front end of business development through
the product end of life. Apply engineering knowledge, tools, and principles to
support our space-based optical communication system developments at Honeywell. JOB ACTIVITIES

Provide technical leadership on optical communication system development programs Define system architectures and system requirements for state-of-the-art space-based optical communication systems Design and analysis of end-to-end optical communication systems Defining system architectures to meet customer required functionality Defining and selecting protocols, including acquisition, tracking, and handshake methods, modulation, coding, and packetization, to be compatible with custom interfaces and satisfy required performance Developing system-level models and link and impairment budgets, and performing simulation and analysis to ensure end-to-end performance requirements are met Develop system-level and sub-system level requirements and specification documents working with the optomechanical design team to define optical sub-system requirements for supporting the communications functions Develop system verification methods and support system verification tests to ensure the system requirements are met Write proposals and white papers related to optical communication and sensing systems Provide technical marketing support through customer briefings and conference presentations 50% Systems Design 15% Requirements Management 10% Customer Interaction 10% Project Oversight 15% Model-Based Deployment ENG0830 YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 15 years of experience developing optical systems, primarily in the optical communications field
  • Due to export laws, must be US citizen, permanent resident, or green card holder WE VALUE
    • Preferably a higher degree in Engineering or Applied Science
    • Knowledge of high-speed optical networking architectures, hardware, specifications, and industry standards
    • Knowledge of forwarding Error Correction algorithms and communication protocols
    • Knowledge of fiber optics, fiber lasers, EDFA, high-speed detectors, BER test hardware, and modulators
    • Experience with systems engineering: defining requirements, experimental verification, qualification procedures, and risk mitigation
    • Familiarity with semiconductor physics, radiation, polarization optics, and integrated photonics would be an asset
    • Understanding of environmental factors involved in space-based-communication systems, including satellite orbits, atmospheric absorptions, scintillations, and their potential impacts on communications links
    • Experience with free-space optical communication system design
    • An understanding of optical design and test methods and familiarity with optical design software
    • A good grasp of optical, mechanical, electrical, and software elements and their interactions within complex systems
    • Experience with system-level simulations tools including MATLAB, Satellite Tool Kit (STK), or other optical communications system simulation tools
    • The ability to manage small programs and small technical teams with engineers, scientists, and technicians from multiple disciplines
    • Knowledge of the systems development lifecycle
    • Individuals that quickly analyze, incorporate and apply new information and concepts
    • Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done
    • The ability to adapt as dictated by project changes
    • The ability to simultaneously manage a variety of complicated tasks
    • A results-oriented and structured problem-solving approach
