Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide expert knowledge in the
assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and treatment of
care for patients in their specialty. S/he will assist in the
facilitation of activities, including in-service education,
performance improvement, and outreach education.The Physician
Assistant (PA), under the direction of the Attending Physician,
will assist in providing medical and/or surgical care of the
department patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
S/he assists the supervising provider in the management of
patients, performing evaluations, diagnostic, and therapeutic
procedures. The PA reports all patient interactions to the
supervising physician in support of providing quality, efficient,
continuous and cost-effective patient care for NAH.
Nurse Practitioner:Communication
- Demonstrates ability to assess, document and implement actions
required to meet patient/family needs.
- Documents and communicates patient/family learning needs.
Patient Care
- Documents assessments, interventions, and patient
responses.
- Functions as an Advance Practice Nurse involving diagnosis and
intiation of treatment.
- Provides full spectrum of patient care in office setting
(physical assessment, diagnostic testing, diagnosis and
treatment).
- Reviews patient chart for follow-up and documentation.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the
patient's status and interpret information relative to the
patient's age-specific needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medical procedures and
terminology.
Clinical Development
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures.
Physician Assistant:Communication
- Demonstrates knowledge of medical procedures and
terminology.
- Consults with colleagues, supervising physicians, specialists,
referral providers and other healthcare professionals.
Patient Care
- Collaborates with the provider and other health care
professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care
for assigned patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the
patient's status and interpret information relative to the
patient's age-specific needs.
- Provides patient care (obtaining a health history, performing a
detailed physical exam, creating a comprehensive assessment of the
patient, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing
pharmacological agents, treatments, and non-pharmacological
therapies).
- Completes documentation of all evaluations, care, and services
rendered in the EMR (within 24 hours of the time care was provided
in the outpatient setting; from the time of discharge in the
inpatient setting).
- Documents patient's response to the treatment plan; recommends
changes as deemed necessary.
- Performs procedures under the supervision of the attending
physician.
- Initiates emergency care in the inpatient and outpatient
setting until the arrival of a physician.
- Orders referrals as necessary.
- Prepares patients for procedures including education,
positioning, skin preparation and administration of local
anesthetic and preparation of equipment.
- Prepares pre-admit orders for same day patients.
- Functions as a first or second assistant in the operating room
(performing surgical exposure, surgical dissections, layer closure
of wounds, harvesting of autologous graft materials).
- Completes discharge plans for both same day and in-hospital
surgical patients.
Clinical Development
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives in support
of practice improvement.
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures.
- Participates in healthcare quality committees.
- Participates in Quality Assurance programs; audits advanced
practice healthcare techniques.
- Serves as first contact person for nursing staff, medical
staff, social service, pastoral care, and other hospital
departments regarding the management of service patients.
Education - Nurse Practitioner
- Master's Degree in Nursing- Required
- Graduate from a Nurse Practitioner program- Required within 6
months of hireEducation - Physician Assistant
- Master's of Science Degree in Physician Assistant-
Required
- Graduate from a university program approved by the
Accreditation Review commission on education for the Physician
Assistant and Nationally Certified as a Physicians Assistant-
RequiredCertification & Licensures - Nurse Practitioner
- Current unrestricted Arizona license as an APRN- Required
within 6 months of hire
- ANCC or AANP Certification- Required with 6 months
- BLS (American Heart Association) certification- Required
- NAHPG Clinic-Based Staff:
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon
hire
- Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of
hire
- Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical
competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental

- Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is
integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and
other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and
throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding
of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software
programs.
