As a Librarian, you will perform professional library services and provide relevant and engaging programming for all age groups, namely children, teens, and adults. This is a full-time position located at the Fountain Hills Library located at 12901 N. La Montana Dr., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268. Education * Master's degree in Library Science froman American Library Association (ALA) accredited school Our Preferred Candidate has * Public library experience (paid, internship and/or volunteer experience will all be considered) Essential Job Tasks The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for the position. * Plans and presents library programming to diverse audiences (ex. story time, workshops, technology courses, etc.) * Provides reference and reader's advisory services to customers in person, by phone, and through email * Instructs individual customers or small groups on the use of PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet * Responds to customer concerns in person, on the telephone, and online * May serve in a lead role as appropriate * Prepares book displays, creates posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, games, and promotional displays * Serves as a local liaison to the central selectors for library materials in assigned areas * Evaluates and culls the collection according to Library District policies * Serves on standing and/or ad-hoc committees * Conducts group tours, school visits, and community outreach * Facilitates public reading programs/initiatives * Compiles and reports library statistics * Oversees Advisory Groups and coordinates Volunteer assignments * Prepares cash summary, balances monies received, and balances cash drawer Working conditions This position works in a library environment. The schedule varies depending on branch needs and often includes evenings and weekends. This position may be located on a school campus and involve considerable interaction with student customers. This position will likely include lifting bins, pushing carts, stooping, kneeling, walking, lifting, and moving items. Lifting floor to waist - 20lbs; Lifting waist to shoulder - 5lbs; Lifting shoulder to overhead - 1lb; Carrying a distance of 50ft - 10lbs; Pushing/pulling a distance of 100ft - 50lbs. Selection Procedure The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources. All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County.
