Job Summary:

The Issue Management Execution Standards (“IMES”) function reports directly to the Head of the Central Risk and Control Office (“CRCO”), which works to streamline the implementation of risk and control programs, enable agreement and communication of risk and control requirements across the three Lines of Defense, increase the execution quality of Business Unit Risk and Control Officer roles and responsibilities, and promote quality and transparent reporting.

The CRCO Issue Management Execution Standards, Quality Assurance (“QA”), Vice President reports to the Head of the Issue Management Execution Standards function. This position is responsible for supporting the IMES Director and conducting QA of business unit adherence with MUFG risk and control execution standards per defined policies and procedures, educating and training business partners on policy and procedure requirements, and collaborating with CRCO and business partner stakeholders to improve the issue management framework.

 

Major responsibilities:

  • Conduct QA over business unit adherence to MUFG issue management and risk and control execution standards per defined QA procedures
  • Participate in developing QA plans that include scope and coverage, resource requirements, execution timelines, prioritization, and program management routines
  • Establish and maintain QA methodology to include roles and responsibilities, procedure, tools and templates, sampling strategy, escalation requirements
  • Coordinate QA activities between the IMES QA execution team, Business Unit risk and control teams, and business unit stakeholders, including planning, execution, and follow-up
  • Identify, report on, and monitor quality exception themes and escalate to management as necessary based on established protocols
  • Educate business partners on new and or changed risk and control execution standards
  • Develop and execute risk and control improvement strategies, including but not limited to defining triggers or criteria that prompt development of Business Unit training, creating training deployment plans, curriculum, presentation materials, target audiences, session scheduling, post-delivery support
  • Act as a leader and role model to develop and promote a workplace culture that values diversity of thought, promotes integrity and creates an atmosphere that supports coaching and fosters accountability
  • Engage as a team player across peer groups and continuously improve self and department
  • Consistently review QA execution strategies for simplification towards improved effectiveness and efficiency
 
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline, at an accredited college or university; advanced degree and/or professional auditing certifications (e.g., CPA, CIA) preferred
  • 8 or more years of relevant internal or external audit, financial services risk advisory, or applicable risk management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of business processes in the banking industry
  • Strong knowledge of internal and/or external audit practices, examination management
  • Strong understanding of risk management, issue management, controls, quality assurance, Risk Control Self-Assessment, process improvement
  • Knowledge of regulatory expectations for risk management, including heightened standards and the three Lines of Defense model
  • Proven track record in managing projects/initiatives and coordinating efforts across multiple groups
  • Familiarity with US regulations, compliance, and governance
  • Proven strength in relationship development and leading through influence
  • Flexibility to adapt approaches to meet the needs of a broad range of stakeholders
  • Well organized, disciplined planner and implementer with sound strategic judgment, thinking and vision
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; able to foster close and collaborative productive working relationships at multiple levels across the organization
  • Consistent demonstration of discretion and good judgment
  • Track record of stature and successful influence with peers and Senior Management, including ability to challenge risk taking
  • Ability to review information and solve problems quickly
  • Achievement oriented and takes initiative
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
  • Capable of multitasking with a large portfolio of responsibilities
  • Strong work ethic and ability to make decisions and achieve tight deadlines
  • Ability to execute as part of a unified team and encourage the MUFG Union Bank culture
