Attorney (Junior Or Mid Level)

Location: Phoenix

Job Description:

Attorneys! Hate Losing? Want to work in a firm designed solely to protect people from real estate fraud?

If you want to be more than a hired gun, this job may be for you.--We're looking for someone who cares deeply about winning for a righteous cause.--We only handle real estate fraud cases, and we're looking to hire someone who sincerely cares about protecting mostly middle-class people who've been cheated in their biggest investment.

--I'm a trial lawyer who's never lost a jury trial. I spent about a decade as an employee of other firms, and always dreamed of the day I'd work in a firm that put winning first. I ultimately founded that law firm.--We're here to win for the people most of the legal industry overlooks.

We need a great writer to help us win

The firm needs a great writer to help us win. You need to be a mature writer who writes a great brief (table stakes) and also thinks strategically about what briefs to write. You think all the way to the end of a case, not just two or three moves ahead. (Of course, tunnel-visioning a single document is appalling). You should understand that great writing makes a difference and have already made a decision to dedicate your career to that skill.

You should also care about how the client feels about your writing.--One of the reasons I care so much about this is because I've had multiple clients read substantive briefs and say that it was the first time they felt like someone understood them or their situation.--That matters.--And even as I hire associates to do the writing, I want clients to continue having the experience.

One of the ways we do this is by embracing "plain English" legal writing.--Go read about the concepts Bryan Garner and Ross Guberman are championing.--We apply them in this firm because we care about our clients.--If you feel a reactionary need to begin briefs with "Comes now" or with mundane, formulaic recitations of party names and defining the plaintiff as ("Plaintiff" or "Smith") or similar nonsense, this may not be the job for you.--We want someone who's willing to renounce that practice.

But if you open briefs with something clear and punchy, we're for you. Ideally, it will be the most important reason your brief should win. A good fact works. Or a powerful legal rule. But you must use good judgment on what will persuade you.

You also understand how to think through a case from inception to end. You should understand how early writing affects depositions and trials. You should feel comfortable doing at least ninety percent of the work on a civil case prior to the trial setting conference. You should also understand motions in limine and be prepared to assist with them and trial preparation.

Winning is rewarding

Potential compensation is fairly open, depending on how independently you show us you can work, what we can bill you at, and overall productivity.--With production bonuses included, there's no reason a talented young associate can't make well into the six-figure range, assuming adequate production.--More senior attorneys with substantial production can easily earn $150,000 or even well above that.

On the flip side, if you want to limit your work hours, we can accommodate that too.--If you want to limit yourself to 120 or even 100 billable hours a month, we have a compensation plan for that too.--If you're open and honest about your priorities, we can get you the package you need to be doing well in all areas of your life.--

We also offer health insurance, which is 100% paid for by the firm.--The firm also offers a 401k with an employer match.--We have dental and vision.--And a PTO plan.--

About Company:
Our Founding and Managing Attorney is an entrepreneur who is passionate about helping people get their money back when they've been cheated. We need an empathetic team player who is mature and caring and wants to ensure the client experience with our firm is second to none. You should have genuine empathy for people who have been cheated and be able to communicate that on the phone.

We have set our sights on being the "go-to firm" for real estate fraud law in Maricopa County. In fact, our true measure of success will be winning enough fraud cases that people start telling the truth because they fear the consequences and reject the dark side. While we are focused on rapid growth, we are still small enough to care about every team member and client. We need someone who's flexible, able to fill in other areas in a pinch, and willing to do things our way.
