Purpose of JobWe are seeking a talented Software Engineer Senior--GIS for our San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ locations.

The candidate selected for this position will be part of the Location & Geospatial-Intelligence team, supporting the Enterprise Data & Analytics Office. This position has a focus on Enterprise GIS Platform operations, maintenance and development. You will be a senior developer on the team responsible for running a true enterprise-scale geospatial analytics & information platform comprised of ArcGIS infrastructure, APIs, Portals and Databases. You will help lead the development and delivery of platform features and initiatives, as well as performing the operations and maintenance work to keep the platform running optimally. You will gain and disseminate knowledge of new tools and best practices. You will write code and test that code from unit to full system integration and coach, train and grow your teammates testing skillset. You will engage in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

This position will be a senior engineer on a team focused on geospatial application and technology maintenance, availability, monitoring & alerting, and championing best practices across the enterprise. You will primarily support & maintain private/public cloud infrastructure, applications, services and APIs written in Java, Python and Javascript. You will use tools, frameworks and services like ArcGIS Enterprise, Oracle, DataDog, Splunk, SoapUI, RunDeck, Chef, GitLab, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, React, AWS and more to grow and improve platform performance, monitoring and experience to ensure that we have a solid GIS foundation for USAA's next 100 years!Job RequirementsAbout USAAUSAA knows what it means to serve. • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.

• Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across many technologies to tie together existing systems and tools.
• Lead code/design reviews with team to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.
• Develop complex algorithms to solve business needs
• Investigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues by directing troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.
• Mentors' engineers, coach engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems; Review teammates' code
• Influence architecture, quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution
• Identify system performance issues and optimize solutionMinimum Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree (10 years of experience in lieu of a degree)
  • 6 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).
  • 4 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.
  • Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
  • Demonstrated experience researching technical issues and generating creative/innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing production issues by troubleshooting applications and systems.
  • Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentalsPreferred experience:
    • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS & Red Hat Open Shift Platform
    • Experience building RESTful APIs using Python and Flask
    • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems and ArcGIS
    • Experience developing APIs using Java

You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position.
