Job Description:

Established private company focused on retail and restaurant development seeks an ambitious Payroll Specialist with 3+ years of payroll or accounting experience, preferably in businesses with at least 500 employees, to work as part of a professional team in Phoenix, Arizona. POSITION SUMMARY Assist with payroll process in a multi-unit company with 1000+ employees in multiple states. The primary function is to ensure that all employees are paid accurately and timely. Work within a team environment with responsibility for maintaining employment records of company personnel. The ability to communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality and to jump from one task to another is imperative. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Payroll Specialist duties include but are not limited to the following: * Processes bi-weekly payroll timely and accurately for multiple states using Web-based third-party software. * Validates accuracy of biweekly payroll submission using standardized processes, auditing preliminary reporting, and reviewing preview reporting prior to final payroll manager review. * Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files, entering all employee changes (pay raises, promotions, terminations, taxes, etc.) * Perform other unscheduled payroll transactions including: preparation of manual checks for terminations or other approved reasons, reversals, and voided checks. * Will handle all garnishments, levies, child supports and vacation/sick pay. * Responds to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters and tactfully addresses complaints and recommends payroll adjustments as needed. * Provide Bi-weekly payroll reports to management. * Interface with finance team on reconciling payroll with GL and researching discrepancies. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Compliance o Conduct regular audit of new hire information ensuring SSN and names entered in HRIS match employment documents. o Obtain and upload employee badge photos. o Assist with E-Verify as needed. o Responds to all employment verification requests from lenders, SSI, DES * HR Administration o Assists in maintaining personnel files and HRIS system o Shared responsibility for voicemail and general email box o Collaborates with HR department to resolve issues and improve processes. * Performs other duties and special projects as requested by management QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience 3-5 years experience in Payroll or Accounting environment, preferably in an organization with 500+ employees. B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in business, accounting or communications is preferable though not required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must have excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills. Ability to maintain a professional and optimistic attitude in all situations. A self-starter who takes initiative and willingly accepts responsibility. One who is self-motivated with a strong attention to detail. Good listener who is able to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior. Effectively perform a wide variety of payroll assignments.
