Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Neuro ICU - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 03/16/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma and EVD experience, with a current AZ or compact RN license. Responsibilities - Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting - Serves neuro critical care patients, including craniotomies, brain tumor removals, ablations, biopsies, and complex spine surgeries - Level 1 Trauma Center with ICU patient population and a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio - Utilizes Cerner EMR and Phillips cardiac monitoring equipment - 12-hour night shifts, 7pm–7am, with 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule - Holiday coverage is based on unit core staff rotation - Floating required to all ICU and telemetry units, with a 4:1 ratio on telemetry floors - Charge nurse on the unit does not take patient assignments - Duties include comprehensive neuro critical care, EVD and ICP management, and floating to tele units where appropriate - Required to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, with strict sterile field competency expected - Orientation includes 12 hours and up to 2 shifts on the floor - Scrub colors are any non-offensive color or print, with steel grey required on neuro floors - 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support is provided - Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing; natural hair color and no facial piercings are required - A pass/fail exam on the first day of orientation determines continued assignment eligibility - Holiday, standby, and float policies in effect according to unit needs - Returning staff employed with affiliated health systems within the past year are not eligible Requirements - Active AZ or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration - Current BLS and ACLS certifications required - Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in large (450 beds) acute settings - Level 1 trauma and EVD management experience required - At least 3-6 months of prior travel nursing experience - Experience with intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and strong neuro assessment skills - Must pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer, with two attempts allowed - Must complete a pass/fail sterile technique exam on Day 1 of orientation - Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years - Must live more than 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver’s license - Candidates cannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-668860.
