multiple locations spanning across the Phoenix metropolitan city.
POSITION SUMMARY This position is capable of functioning as an
Orthopedic Clinical Assistant and as a Medical Assistant, relying
on the specialized knowledge and skills of each profession to
provide appropriate patient care. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. When performing
Orthopedic Technologist duties, as delegated by a physician under a
physician’s direction and supervision: applies, adjusts and removes
casts, splints, and immobilization devices. Changes dressings and
cares for wounds. Measures and fits patients for braces and other
orthopedic devices. 2. When performing Orthopedic Technologist
duties, as delegated by a physician under a physician’s direction
and supervision: communicates instructions to patients regarding
pre- and post-operative care, proper care of casts, splints,
immobilization devices and crutch training. 3. When performing
Medical Assistant duties, under the direct supervision of
physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners
(“Providers”): prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking
and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary
measurements. Coordinates and manages patient care
pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling of
patients for clinic, hospital and other ancillary medical
treatments and tests. Assists providers with exams and minor
in-office procedures. Acts as chaperone when needed. Uses universal
blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal
protective equipment as needed. Acts as a resource to Provider in
order to provide optimal patient care. May administer medications
in accordance with established policies and procedures or as
directed. 4. When performing Medical Assistant duties, under the
direct supervision of physicians, physician assistants and nurse
practitioners (“Providers”): provides clerical support with
patient/client notifications and documentation. Provides complete
and accurate information in a timely fashion. 5. When performing
Medical Assistant duties, under the direct supervision of
physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners
(“Providers”): maintains a clean, functional environment including
cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage
areas. Disinfects equipment and instruments following sterilization
procedures. Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA
guidelines in handling of hazardous substances. Performs basic
maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance for
prompt repairs. 6. When performing Medical Assistant duties, under
the direct supervision of physicians, physician assistants and
nurse practitioners (“Providers”): interacts with all levels of
staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families
and external contacts, such as employees of other health care
institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the
health care of the patient. Also interacts with physician’s offices
in order to report, ask for or clarify information. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS Current Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT)
Certification from the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals
(ASOP) is required. Minimum qualifications required by applicable
state law and regulations. Completion of an approved Medical
Assistant training program. Programs without an in-person clinical
component will not be accepted. Active Medical Assistant
Certification is required. Recognized certifications include:
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Medical
Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified
Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from National Health Career
Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Certified
Competency Testing (NCCT). Current BLS Certification is required.
Requires knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and
general billing/coding processes as typically obtained through one
year of experience in a hospital or physician practice environment.
Proof of completion of skills and competencies is required
annually. Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to
work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and
communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple
changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion. EEO
