Must possess a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification upon hire.Must be able to obtain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through CHS and maintain certification.Must successfully complete a fingerprint background checkOur Preferred Candidate hasThree (3) years of experience as a physician post-residency trainingBoard certification in Internal Medicine or Family MedicineExperience providing medical care in a correctional environmentCertified Correctional Health ProfessionalEssential Job TasksThe tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.Assures that Correctional Health Services (CHS) can fulfill its mission of providing medically necessary, evidence-based, integrated health care to patients going through the judicial systemObtains history and completes physical examinations of patients incarcerated in Maricopa County JailsEvaluates and treats patients as medically indicated in compliance with CHS Policies and ProceduresDocuments patient encounters according to CHS protocols in a SOAPE format in the progress notes or on the appropriate CHS clinical formDevelops and updates individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic conditions or special needsOrders onsite lab work, treatments, and medications as medically indicatedRefers to outside specialists, outside diagnostic studies, and other outside services as medically indicatedWorks alternative shifts in the clinical setting as needed at any facility, including occasional weekend coveragePerforms minor procedures such as sutures, incision, and drainage of abscesses, simple splints, punch biopsies, and pelvic examsTakes periodic after-hours calls for the patients in Maricopa County jailsParticipates in peer reviews, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve patient careMaintains applicable licensure and skills according to the requirements by state law, department policies, and licensure agenciesPerforms other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Mental Health Director, or other designeesSupervises Physician Assistants as assigned by the Medical DirectorWorking ConditionsMust be able to work inside a jail setting. The work and social environment will consist of being constantly indoors in a confined area handling multiple or complicated tasks, be accurate, require decision making, be concentrated and vigilant in a teamwork atmosphere handling a high volume of work and time pressures with frequently changing and unscheduled tasks. Will frequently work with interruptions and in close physical proximity with others, requires working overtime or rotating shifts.Selection ProcedureThe Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified.
