The VP of Strategy and Client Management is accountable for establishing and maintaining the overall relationship with URS, UHC Medicare Programs, and OptumRx. - This includes the setting and execution of strategy for growth, retention, and client satisfaction. -This leader is a key partner to the Market President for the E&I segment strategy overall and has direct influence on decisions impacting the ability of OptumRx to meet its growth targets. - You will share responsibility for a multi-billion-dollar growth goal in this Market segment.
This leader will establish the necessary relationships, process, and governance to deliver proactive and consultative guidance to URS and secure alignment around key initiatives and process improvements to ensure OptumRx is positioned to not only deliver but exceed expectations. In addition to building out processes and procedures across URS and OptumRx to drive efficient, accurate and consistent Group Retiree program management, you will be responsible for developing deep trusted relationships with URS and OptumRx executives that drive strategic collaboration and promote long-lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships. -This includes but is not limited to leading regular strategy and growth forums with the various lines of business, to ensure solutions remain responsive to evolving market needs. - You will bring critical market insights and intelligence to inform vison, strategy formation and continuous improvements.
The VP of Strategy and Client Management will partner with URS to support not only the direct client but the 1,700 plus clients and 3 million lives that it represents. - As the SVP, you will assess organization development needs across URS and OptumRx and push the organization to act to deliver capabilities that enable growth. - You will serve as the key fulcrum point between URS and OptumRx to streamline communication, connection points, and progress towards goals and objectives. - This will include close coordination with the OptumRx Government Programs teams that service UHC.
The VP will be a key leader in "turning around" a critical relationship and ensuring that you will hold accountability for leading and developing a high-caliber, well-engaged client management team for service and support of URS as a client as well support of downstream clients as needed. -

Primary Responsibilities:


  • As key leader in the Growth and Retention organization, lead cross functional teams and drive broader corporate initiatives to drive revenue and value creation for URS and OptumRx
  • Establish and maintain strong personal relationships with key executives and decision-makers within URS to influence decisions at both the URS and OptumRx level. Relationships include but are not limited to, CEO, COO, Chief Client Officer, VPs of Client Management, and other key leaders
  • Keep the organization informed of market needs, product requirements, competitive information, account specific initiatives and other knowledge essential for our business efforts
  • Be a visible representative within the broader Enterprise, and as such, demonstrate visionary thinking that sustains a differentiated value proposition for URS
  • Collaborate internally with senior executives to develop strategic and tactical plans to achieve desired annual growth targets and drive optimal service delivery
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal functional leaders to promote a culture of continuous improvement and to enhance our account management team's productivity and effectiveness while optimizing clients' experience and profitability potential
  • Collaborate internally with senior executives to develop SLAs to achieve desired operational performance targets; establish "shared" scorecard to measure outcomes as determined by governance or through intersegment agreements between OptumRx and URS
  • Support annual OptumRx intersegment agreement negotiations between URS and OptumRx for Group Retiree. Gather and discuss additional requirements from URS and UHC Medicare programs. Assess and lead OptumRx response to additional requirements
  • Ensure that OptumRx assets and innovation are fully deployed to the benefit of URS and its clients
  • Accountable for establishing a strong bench; recruiting and developing top talent; driving a motivated and engaged team; and developing a succession plan to accommodate for new growth. Develop staffing plan with specific budget targets. Partner with OptumRx Government Programs and broader OptumRx on additional resources to drive Group Retiree growth
  • Forge high trust, highly effective internal relationships with teams such as underwriting, legal, product development, industry relations, operations, and finance to identify strategic opportunities and drive a culture of continuous improvement
  • Closely monitor and serve as a key point of escalation for high profile Group Retiree plan issues
  • Always demonstrate and drive service excellence
  • Collaborate with URS and OptumRx sales teams to support requests for proposals/information in a timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Engage with URS and OptumRx on complex Group Retiree Plan implementations. Provide feedback on unique customer requirements. Monitor implementation milestones and metrics. - Develop best practice and continuous improvement for subsequent implementations

    Required Qualifications: -

    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience
    • 10+ years of health care experience and recent leadership experience with a proven track record of success
    • 5+ years of leadership experience with Medicare Group Retiree Benefits (MAPD and PDP)
    • Solid understanding of the PBM/managed care pharmacy industry and its core competencies
    • Recent experience working with senior-level C-Suite executives and ability to lead innovative and forward-thinking discussions
    • Demonstrated progressively increasing responsibility for client relationship management and consultation
    • Well-demonstrated problem-solving skill, process improvement, and leading project management teams.
    • Financial acumen; ability to interpret financial statements, identify trends and drive strategic recommendations
    • Ability to manage to an operating expense budget
    • Ability to interpret complex contracts; balance internal and external views; and effectively manage client negotiations
    • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, collaboration, and listening skills
    • Demonstrated ability to message, position, and present information for maximum customer impact and influence
    • Program management skills
    • Ability to effectively navigate and drive results in a highly complex, matrix environment
    • Ability to travel up to 50%


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Licensed pharmacist
      • Master's degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Public Health or other-related field

        California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $181,600 to $345,500. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
