The Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) team is part of the American Express Data Office, our global data center of excellence responsible for realizing the potential of our data and providing the principles, policies, processes, architecture, and governance to enable consistent, trusted, and usable data to drive accurate data-driven business outcomes. We are looking for a strategic, experienced individual for the role of Director, User Journeys and Business Architecture, responsible for collaborating across business units, enterprise technology teams, and product/platform teams to model and map our end-to-end User Journeys and ensure that data architecture designs include best practices in data governance and data management, driving the consistency, usability, and governance of our data assets across the enterprise. The Director will be responsible for:

  • Developing a library of end-to-end User Journeys, from customer touchpoints to business capabilities and processes, to systems and data sets, enterprise-wide, with a deep understanding of American Express's core business functions
  • Collaborating with platform modernizations and API development teams to develop data sourcing strategies from the appropriate System of Record or Authorized Data Source.
  • Influencing and collaborating with technology teams to incorporate architecture principles and design patterns to increase consistency and interoperability of data across the enterprise.
  • Working closely with Architects and Data offices across the enterprise and Data Offices to ensure that data management and data governance requirements are met in a manner consistent with the American Express data governance and data management policies and standards.
  • Expand and promote the Enterprise Business Capability Framework
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Data Governance Policy and Standards team to develop and promote standards that will foster consistency and interoperability of data across the enterprise.
  • Understanding architectural principles and guidelines, compliance, audit, and risk expectations, and delivery and performance requirements, to ensure that these are factored into data architecture recommendations and designs. Minimum Qualifications A successful candidate will have:
    • 8+ years of proven experience in Data Architecture and Enterprise Architecture within major data transformation initiatives, focusing on advancing curated, high quality enterprise data sets
    • Experience in Agile methodology for data management, big data, and cloud data platforms.
    • Proven experience in business architecture and business process modeling on highly complex projects
    • Excellent abstract thinking skills, ability to quickly switch between conceptual, logical, and physical views
    • Experience working in financial services
    • Solid understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts with the ability to be an advocate for architecture that supports Amex's governance/management of data.
    • Ability to work and communicate with both business and technical teams at various levels.
    • Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity.
    • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
    • High degree of organization, individual initiative and personal accountability and resiliency. A track record of leading and encouraging large teams through sophisticated initiatives.
