Executive Director of the Arizona Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission Closing Date: 11/25/2021 Job Summary: Executive Director of the Arizona Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission supports the Arizona Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts and oversees all amateur/professional boxing, amateur/professional mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Toughman events and ensures that applicable laws and rules are enforced to guarantee the integrity of the bouts and to protect the health and safety of the contestants and the public interests. The position entails various administrative functions including licensing of contestants, officials, and promoters; budgeting; accounting; and preparation of required reports. It is also responsible for the preparation of notices, agendas and supporting materials for all regular and special Commission meetings. This position will work remotely, but must be available to travel to commission meetings, sporting events, and the main office. This position will at times work nights and weekends, that may require overnight stays. Job Duties:

  • Oversee all Amateur/Professional Boxing, Amateur/Professional Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Toughman events and ensures that applicable laws and rules are enforced to guarantee the integrity of the bouts and to protect the health and safety of the contestants and the public interests.
  • Oversee and assist in the various administrative functions including licensing of combatants, promoters, matchmakers, managers, judges, inspectors, referees, physicians, timekeepers, seconds, cutmen, trainers, and ring announcers.
  • Oversee and assist with budgeting, collection of licensing fees, event fees, fines, tax levies, accounting and the preparations of required financial reports. Review --- Oversee all Amateur/Professional Boxing, Amateur/Professional Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Toughman events and ensures that applicable laws and rules are enforced to guarantee the integrity of the bouts and to protect the health and safety of the contestants and the public interests.
  • Oversee and assist in the various administrative functions including licensing of combatants, promoters, matchmakers, managers, judges, inspectors, referees, physicians, timekeepers, seconds, cutmen, trainers, and ring announcers.
  • Oversee and assist with budgeting, collection of licensing fees, event fees, fines, tax levies, accounting and the preparations of required financial reports. Review and ensure professional contracts are in order and fully executed, ensure fighter payment forms are accurate and that all event debt is paid by promoter.
  • Responsible for the preparation of commission meeting notices, preparation of commission agendas and supporting materials for all regular and special Commission meetings. Analyze processes and procedures for efficiency, set goals and targets to eliminate lead and lag times, maintain Boxing/MMA Huddle information.
  • Review and evaluate work performed by direct reports, including signing off on work steps.
    Knowledge of:
    • Thorough knowledge of A.R.S. Title 5, Chapter 2, Arizona Boxing Statutes and Title 19, Chapter 6, Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Administrative Rules.
    • National Boxing and MMA guidelines, laws and rules of other states.
    • The legislative process for statutory amendments as well as the rule making process.
    • Effective management and supervisory practices. Skills in:
      • Management, leadership, gathering of facts and information, organizing, analyzing, comprehending, and planning to make logical interpretations necessary to perform administrative and management duties.
      • Providing technical advice and quick effective decision making.
      • Good public speaking and presentation skills to effectively communicate with licensees, law enforcement, legislative and media groups.
      • Continuous improvement in streamlining work processes Ability to:
        • Work nights and weekends.
        • Sit or stand for long periods of time.
        • Possess above average communication and writing skills.
        • Work independently, be able to analyze and resolve problems and have excellent organizational skills.
        • Work remotely (at home).
        • Work in a "team" environment. Selective Preference(s): Extensive knowledge of Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Toughman contest rules and regulations.
          High School Diploma
          Bilingual and Biliterate in Spanish, preferred.
          Knowledge of First Aid, a plus. Pre-Employment Requirements: Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation.
          Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
