Unclassified Department Sheriff About the Position The Lead Network
Engineer serves as the senior level subject matter expert
responsible for analyzing, developing, planning, and executing
network strategies to integrate or improve current network systems
used throughout the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. The position
is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all
aspects of network communications including local area networks,
wide area networks and communications with remote installations.
The Lead Network Engineer develops strategic goals and plans to
assess current systems, determines changes necessary to increase
efficiency, and consults with and provides recommendations to IT

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information
Systems, Information Technology or closely related field.
Experience
- Five years (5) of information technology experience that
includes responsibility and accountability for monitoring,
reviewing, and managing network administration. OR Combined
education and experience qualifications
- Other combinations of education or experience may substitute
for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis. Other

- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and
700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Modify, maintain and design of Cisco networking equipment and
VMware NSX.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all
candidates pass a background review. Our Preferred Candidate has
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information
Systems, or related field.
- Current CCNP Route/Switch (CCIE Preferred)
- Experience in an emergency operations environment
- Experience in a project implementation lead role. Essential Job
Tasks (This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may

- Provides architecture and administration of LAN technologies of
Cisco routers, switches, and ASA firewalls.
- Assists with developing and designing of network solutions to
existing and upcoming network opportunities.
- Architects a Micro-segmentation solution utilizing VMware
NSX.
- Audits firmware versions and configurations settings for the
network infrastructure (on premise and cloud) to eliminate
vulnerabilities and ensure network operates in accordance with
vendor recommendations, industry best practices, and
compliances.
- Configures and implements next generation firewall systems and
next generation intrusion protection systems.
- Designs/architects network solutions that support efficiencies
towards the next generation infrastructure.
- Comprehends cloud topologies (VPC, Virtual subnets, NACLS,
etc.) and is experienced with BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QOS and
wireless.
- Applies design and implementation experience with load
balancing approaches using VMware NSX.
- Provides resolution of complex network issues including
conflicts, connectivity, and network security issues.
- Performs security testing such as vulnerability assessments or
penetration tests to identify security misconfigurations or
vulnerable states; remediates security issues discovered.
- Monitors, upgrades, troubleshoots, and provides maintenance for
the network infrastructure.
- Designs, implements, and operates systems with adherence to
industry compliance such as PCI, HIPPA and CJIS.
- Develops and executes requests for change (RFC) within the
agency as related to the network environment.
- Mentors and leads staff; provides tips, techniques, and best
practices to be utilized for the infrastructure environment.
- Manages all virtual networking to include VMware NSX, and HPE
Synergy.
- Serves as a technical lead for network projects as well as
other critical information technology projects and manages
teams/project workflow as needed.
- Creates process change by integrating new processes with
existing ones; communicates changes to impacted teams and
functional areas.
- Measures the effectiveness of networking initiatives and
assists executive management in monitoring and evaluating
information technology performance.
- Identifies opportunities to re-engineer existing solutions to
maximize the benefits of the network.
- Identifies emerging network technologies which could improve
the MCSO enterprise.
- Facilitates strategic customer steering committees and
represents the department at various MCSO initiatives.
- Creates and maintains application-related documentation and
user manuals.
- Works with end users to resolve network and performance related
issues.
- Partners with the PSAP to understand business processes.
- Serves as a system matter expert on all network related
