Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The VP Finance is responsible for directing the overall operation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES): Oversee the activities of the Finance Department and the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets. Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance. Establish and supervise the accounting process/procedures for the company in accordance with applicable rules, laws and regulations. Prepare reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations. Oversee the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income and sales tax returns in accordance with rules, laws and regulations; advises management on desirable, operational adjustments due to tax code revisions. Advise management regarding insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation. Establish credibility with the CEO and throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges. Provide accounting and financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline. Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; i.e., evaluation of potential alliances acquisitions and/or mergers and pension funds and investments. Seek continuous improvement of company’s cash management position. Maintain and expand the working relationship with banks and other lending institutions. Evaluate the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals. Maintain financial security by adhering to internal accounting controls. Supervises/manages staff including hiring, training, assigning tasks and monitoring work performance, recommending and approving salary actions, coaching and counseling and recommending and administering corrective action, including termination; consults with Human Resources as appropriate. Resolves problems directly through coaching of subordinates and/or collaboration with peers and management. All employees are required to perform the following essential functions: demonstrate predictable, reliable and timely attendance; follow written and verbal directions and complete assigned tasks on schedule; read, write and communicate in English; communicate in person and by telephone in accordance with Company policy; learn from directions, observations and mistakes; work independently or as part of a team; interact appropriately with others including co-workers, supervisors and customers; and work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling and/or corrective action. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge and skilled at the professional application of accounting theory principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards, current laws and company policy. Significant knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Strong technical skills with, and knowledge of, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and sales tax. Skilled at interpreting and applying technical accounting data. Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and applications and keyboard facility. Solid understanding of budget development, administration and the procurement process. Highly skilled in preparing and/or reviewing detailed and complex numerical computations and reports. Highly skilled in preparing/reviewing financial statements for potential errors to ensure proper reporting. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Navision, ADP Payroll processing, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and Internet Explorer. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. High attention to detail and accuracy with consistent follow-through. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, writing and negotiating skills. Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Skilled at organizing, convening and chairing a meeting to achieve state outcomes/objectives. Skilled at developing and effectively delivering presentations on complex material to a variety of audiences. Skilled at organizing work, prioritizing duties, and delegating work appropriately to staff. Solid understanding of effective principles and practices of supervising employees and the ability to effectively apply these principles to direct reports in support of a collegial, customer-focused and competent work unit. Skilled at addressing timely, uncomfortable or difficult employee performance issues and situations, working towards an effective resolution. Ability to operate competently common office equipment, including, but not limited to, computer, fax, copier and telephone system. Ability to travel away from the primary office location. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Exercises a high degree of professionalism and self-motivation using personal initiative to identify and recommend best practices. Demonstrates a continued commitment to professional education and industry best practices. Performs all other duties as assigned. Work is performed within the scope of general company policies, procedures and objectives. Regular use of judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired results. This position supervises non-exempt staff and may occasionally perform the work of subordinate staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; minimum 10 years of progressively responsible professional accounting/finance experience, which must include ten (10) years of management experience; possession of a current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation; or any equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
