  • Teamwork: promotes cooperation and commitment to achieve goals and deliverables and willing to share and receive information The Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion (DEAI) is responsible for advancing and integrating diversity, equity, access and inclusion into all aspects of Valley of the Sun United Way's (VSUW) work, consistent with the mission and values of the organization. This individual will provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing programs, initiatives, policies and procedures that advance DEAI for our overall culture, staff, volunteers and community. They are responsible for staffing and coordinating the activities of VSUW internal and external DEAI work. This individual will contribute to donor engagement and marketing strategies, new projects and customized philanthropy related to DEAI. This person is also responsible for managing internal staff DEAI, culture strategies, and challenges in partnership with Human Resources. This role requires mentoring others across departments while helping execute the goals and expectations of the Chief Executive Officer internally and representing United Way externally. What This Position Does: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • Develop goals, strategies, and performance measures that advance DEAI efforts. Serve as a resource in how to use policies and procedures to promote and implement diversity and inclusion practices. Provide technical assistance, training, and tools.
    • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with a diverse network of community partners such as local governments, human service providers, school districts, colleges and universities, human service nonprofits, health networks, local foundations and other organizations that support and promote VSUW's work and represents VSUW with such partners.
    • Manage and facilitate the VSUW DEAI Board Committee which includes meeting and regular communication to guide and hold VSUW accountable in the integration of DEAI into all aspects of the work.
    • Assist in overall organizational budget planning for DEAI initiatives.
    • Partner with staff and committee volunteers to develop projects, discovery and solutions to issues and trends that affect Maricopa County nonprofits. Taking a lead role in the implementation of solutions developed by the Committee and agreed to by VSUW.
    • Develops and leads the implementation of the long-term vision and goals for diversity, equity, access and inclusion, design and implement DEAI programs and training for staff, BOD, and community, and is accountable for the results of those programs.
    • Deliver services to engage community partners in new ways - DEAI training as well as nonprofit board training.
    • Join internal corporate and individual donor teams to build and execute engagement strategies and new revenue streams as requested.
    • Partner with the Human Resources to advance an equitable and inclusive work environment and culture by ensuring policies, procedures and practices are transparent, targeted and universal, and designed to meet current and future needs.
    • Collaborate with HR to design and implement talent management processes to increase diversity of senior leadership team, implement DEAI programs targeted to staff attraction and retention.
    • Partner with Corporate, Brand and Development to advise and contribute in ensuring engagement, branding, marketing and fundraising efforts are aligned with VSUW's DEAI strategies.
    • Develop and implement programs and activities to support partner organizations' diversity efforts.
    • Manage and facilitate internal DEAI committees.
    • Accessible to participants, key stakeholders and employees to support diversity and inclusion initiatives.
    • Advise, lead and support projects and strategies to increase engagement of donors and volunteers from diverse groups in Maricopa County.
    • Plan, communicate and measure DEAI efforts, incorporate relevant measurements of success in communication plans, tracking both quantitative and qualitative.
    • Other duties as assigned. The experience this requires (a combination of education or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements):
      • Bachelor's Degree desired in organizational change management, human resources, psychology, business, communication or related degree
      • At least five (5) years of proven leadership in DEAI cultural awareness in a non-profit or for profit organization.
      • Experience with program development and execution of DEAI efforts within an organizational/institutional and community framework.
      • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws.
      • Experience with change management processes and procedures, culture change initiative and facilitation methods. In addition to the Organizational Competencies listed above, this individual must also demonstrate the following:

        • Collaboration: demonstrates a willingness to find solutions and problems, recognizes collaborators' strengths and weaknesses, and gives credit to others for contributions
        • Change Management: knowledgeable in organizational development, organizational communications and practices and critical interventions, clearly defines and articulates a vision to acquire employee and stakeholder buy-in, and develops strategies that are in alignment with the organization creating viable and sustainable impact and results
        • Facilitation: enables cooperative and productive group interactions, conveys ideas and facts using language the audience will understand, and formally delivers information to groups
        • Integrity: maintains confidentiality, shares complete and accurate information and adheres to organizational policies and procedures
        • Planning and Organizing: sets priorities, plans and organizes tasks to achieve objectives and allocates and uses resources wisely
        • Problem Solving: comes up with appropriate solutions by gathering and organizing all relevant information and identifies cause and effect relationships
        • Strategic Thinking: sees the big, long-range picture, analyzes options and decisions based on long-term outcomes, and translates the organizational vision into clear strategies This job might not be the right fit if you:
